  • The skirt is calf-to-full-length (depending on your height). It is cut in a full and feminine shape and features large oversized pockets on the front of the skirt, which are cleverly integrated into the patchwork design. The skirt features an exaggerated floral 3d patchwork textile design. It has an elasticated waist, allowing you the freedom to customise the fit to your taste. It can be lined or unlined depending on your preference.

  • he flower patchwork skirt is an exploration of the hybridisation of pattern cutting and textile design, which is at the core of what ROBERTS | WOOD does.

The pattern has been specifically developed to make use of smaller remnants and offcuts of fabric which you might have left over from other sewing projects, or possibly from other unused textiles or clothes.

The making of this skirt involves a Patchwork technique with exposed ‘petal-shaped’ raw edges on the right side. Following the included instructions you will learn how to create the 2 Patchwork pockets which are integrated into the patchwork design. The construction also involves a binding finish on the top of the pockets as well as on the skirt hem.

  • The design will work best with medium to lightweight fabrics with a fairly dense weave, as there are exposed raw edges in the design and this will keep the frayed edges to a minimum (unless that is your desired effect).

The pattern is designed to be cut from 3 different fabrics to create the patchwork effect. The design shown makes use of our old cutting-table offcuts and has been made in a monochromotic colour palette using silk, linen and a flower-embroidered cotton.

However, it is possible to customise this design in any way you choose, for example using multiple colours. Another variation could be to make it all from a single fabric. Another could be to make it from 4 or more different fabrics, depending what you have available - each pattern piece could be cut from a completely different fabric if desired, the possibilities are endless!

  • The pattern has been designed to be cut from remnants / offcuts, however if you wish to cut from regular lengths of fabric, the approximate fabric usage is listed below.

  • This ROBERTS | WOOD KiT project is provided as a PDF pattern with sewing instructions. It includes an A4 printable PDF pattern, which can be printed and assembled at home using any standard home printer. An A0 format pattern is also included should you wish to print it at a printers/print shop.

A bias binding guide is included in the pattern. Additionally a lining pattern is included, should you wish to add a lining to your project (optional). The pdf sewing instructions also suggest further hand-stitching and embroidery techniques you may want to explore and add to your project for further customisation, or to add as a finishing depending on your selected fabrics.

  • Materials required: Fabric for patchwork (see size listing for usage), fabric for lining (optional), fabric for binding (optional), threads. No additional notions required.

Equipment required: Scissors, sellotape (if printing A4 pattern), sewing machine, hand sewing needle, measuring tape, chalk, pins

  • As with many ROBERTS | WOOD designs, this pattern is not a “traditional style” sewing pattern.

Although this pattern is aimed at Intermediate to Advanced level sewists and assumes basic knowledge of sewing techniques and terminology, it could also be a fun practice project for a person who wants to learn or improve their beginner skills. A perfect project to undertake using fabric offcuts that are otherwise going to waste.

We would recommend completing this project over several days as it is intended to be something you can take your time with and enjoy the making process following our principals of ‘slow fashion’
