ROBERTS | WOOD is a design studio focusing on an innovative approach to textiles and construction. We are committed to developing sustainable, flexible production methods, valuing a hybrid of technology and artisanal making.
This ROBERTS | WOOD KiT project is provided as a PDF pattern with sewing instructions.
The top is cut as a slightly boxy shape with a relaxed fit. The simple shape is offset by the exaggerated raw edged floral 3d patchwork textile design, specifically developed to make use of smaller remnants and offcuts of fabric
This pattern is recommended for Intermediate level sewists.
Each download is a bundle which includes 2 sizes of the pattern. Note the two sizes in each bundle are supplied as separate patterns / separate files (i.e the patterns are not nested together on the same file).
In cases where the sizes are marked with a hyphen (e.g size 6-8) this represent one single-size pattern. See the Sizing and Fit tab for more details of the final garment measurements for each size.

The flower patchwork top is an exploration of the hybridisation of pattern cutting and textile design, which is at the core of what ROBERTS | WOOD does.
The pattern has been specifically developed to make use of smaller remnants and offcuts of fabric which you might have left over from other sewing projects, or possibly from other unused textiles or clothes.
Patchwork design with exposed raw edges on the right side. The design can either be made with a binding finish at the neckline, hem and sleeve hems (option 1) or lining finish (option 2). Both patterns and instruction options are included.
The design will work best with medium to lightweight fabrics with a fairly dense weave, as there are exposed raw edges in the design and this will keep the frayed edges to a minimum (unless that is your desired effect).
The pattern is designed to be cut from 3 different fabrics to create the patchwork effect. The design shown makes use of our old cutting-table offcuts and has been made in a monochromatic colour palette using silk, linen and a flower-embroidered cotton.
However, it is possible to customise this design in any way you choose, for example using multiple colours. Another variation could be to make it all from a single fabric. Another could be to make it from 4 or more different fabrics, depending what you have available - each pattern piece could be cut from a completely different fabric if desired, the possibilities are endless!
The pattern has been designed to be cut from remnants / offcuts, however if you wish to cut from regular lengths of fabric, the approximate fabric usage is listed below.
This ROBERTS | WOOD KiT project is provided as a PDF pattern with sewing instructions. It includes an A4 printable PDF pattern, which can be printed and assembled at home using any standard home printer. An A0 format pattern is also included should you wish to print it at a printers/print shop
The pdf sewing instructions also suggest further hand-stitching and embroidery techniques you may want to explore and add to your project for further customisation, or to add as a finishing depending on your selected fabrics.
Materials required: Fabric for patchwork (see fabric usage), fabric for lining (optional), fabric for binding (optional), threads. No additional notions required.
Equipment required: Scissors, sellotape (if printing A4 pattern), sewing machine, hand sewing needle, measuring tape, chalk, pins.
As with many ROBERTS | WOOD designs, this pattern is not a “traditional style” sewing pattern.
Although this pattern is aimed at Intermediate level sewist and assumes basic knowledge of sewing techniques and terminology, it could also be a fun practice project for a person who wants to learn or improve their beginner skills.
A perfect project to undertake using fabric offcuts that are otherwise going to waste.
We would recommend completing this project over several days as it is intended to be something you can take your time with and enjoy the making process following our principals of ‘slow fashion’
