  • External dimensions: 26.5 cm x 26.5 cm (at widest points).

Length of strap (adjustable): pattern is 120 cm long and can be lengthened or shortened to your desired length.

Pouch opening: 12.5 cm (when flat).

Internal Dimensions: the bag has a small, irregularly shaped internal lined pouch which is 18 cm at the deepest point by 23 cm at the widest point - the perfect size for carrying your keys, cards, phone or makeup.

The bag fastens with a tie at the back. (You could alternatively use one of the Ties to make a loop which hooks over a button if you prefer an alternative fastening.)

  • If you think the design looks hard to work out, don’t be put off - the detailed instructions (included) will take you through every step you need to learn how to make this bag.

The brilliance of this design is actually its simplicity: it is surprisingly quick to put together!

The design fuses ROBERTS | WOOD’s signature approach of combining textile manipulation with clever pattern-cutting and construction methods to create this fun little puzzle of a project.

The basic principle for the construction of the bag is to sew the four ‘Petal’ Pieces together to create the Flower, which becomes twisted during the construction phase to produce the 3D Fabric manipulation element of the design.

The strap and ties are then assembled, and the Back of the bag (including the lining bag) is constructed.

The Front Flower of the bag is then stitched to the assembled Back of the bag to complete the piece.

  • The design will work best with medium to lightweight fabrics with a bit of structure. We recommend fusing with light/medium weight fusible interlining if you think your fabric is too floppy.

This mini bag features a twisted 3D Flower-shape made up of 4 ‘Petal’ pattern pieces which can be cut from 1, 2 or 4 different fabrics (see 3 possible variations pictured)

Different textured fabrics can be especially effective to contrast the different patches and bring out the spiraling flower pattern.

  • This pattern has been designed to be cut from smaller fabric remnants or offcuts, however if you wish to cut from regular lengths of fabric, the approximate fabric usage is listed below.

Main fabric(s): requires 55 cm of fabric measuring 140cm wide

Lining: requires 25cm of fabric measuring 140cm wide

Fusing (optional): requires 75 cm of fabric measuring 90cm wide

  • This ROBERTS | WOOD KiT project is provided as a PDF pattern with sewing instructions. It includes an A4 printable PDF pattern, which can be printed and assembled at home using any standard home printer. An A0 format pattern is also included should you wish to print it at a printers/print shop

  • Materials required:  1 to 4 different fabrics for the outer bag, Fabric for Lining, Fusible interfacing (optional), threads, button (optional - if you prefer a loop/ button closure)

Equipment required: Scissors, sellotape (if printing A4 pattern), sewing machine, hand sewing needle, measuring tape, chalk, pins.

  • Intermediate and above.

As with many ROBERTS | WOOD designs, this pattern is not a “traditional style” sewing pattern, and will differ from the construction stages of a traditional bag pattern you may have come across before. However we have made the construction stages as simple and fun as possible, with full step by step instructions included, so don’t be put off if you haven’t made anything quite like this before!

Although this pattern is aimed at an Intermediate level sewist and assumes knowledge of basic sewing techniques and terminology, we think it could also be a fun practice project for a confident beginner with a few projects under their belt, who wants to learn new textile and sewing skills. A perfect project to undertake using fabric offcuts that are otherwise going to waste. The pattern also includes a step by step instruction booklet to enable you to learn how to make this piece.

  • With a make-time of roughly 2-4 hours * depending on skill level, this is one of our shorter projects, so it’s a really satisfying make, which you will enjoy seeing come together over a short time.

*(excluding cutting time and printing and assembling the pattern)
